“We’re going to make millions.”

I was at the office of my Romanian friend Remus the other day.

“Hey, look at this,” he said. “I have a great business idea I’ve been working on.”

“Ok,” I said. “What is it?”

“It’s this website. Take a look.”

“That looks good.”

“Thanks, it’s similar to one in the US.”

“What does it do?”

“It distributes these products by extending money to members to buy them at stores that our members sell to on the website.”

“I don’t understand.”

“The same thing is done in the US.”

“I still don’t understand. How does it work?”

“Look at the website. Look what it does.”

“The pictures can move.”

“Yes, we even improved on what they do in the US.”

“It’s very impressive.”

“I’ve been working on this for two months.”

“And what do you sell?”

“No, other people sell.”

“I don’t understand.”

“We provide the products.”

“So what is this site?”

“Yes, they come to our site.”

“I don’t understand.”

“It’s a great success in the US.”

“But how do you make money?”

“We get paid when they buy.”

“When who buys what?”

“When customers buy the products.”

“You mean in the stores?”

“No, from our members.”

“So they come to this website?”

“Yes, after they pay.”

“Why do they pay?”

“They pay so they can join.”

“Pay to join what?”

“Join the membership club.”

“And why would they join?”

“To come to the site.

“They pay to go there?”

“Yes, they have to be members.”

“Members of what?”

“Of the group that sells all those things from the stores.”

“So you need a big group?”

“The US has millions of members.”

“What things do they sell?”

“Whatever they want.”

“To anyone they can?”

“Only to those who agree.”

“So they must sign agreements?”

“Of course, there are agreements. This is a real business.”

“So you have a good lawyer?”

“Why have a lawyer?”

“To write the agreements.”

“We just use the agreements they use over there.”

“Are they valid in Romania?”

“It’s the internet. These agreements work anywhere.”

“You have local approval?”

“Approval for what?”

“To lend people money.”

“We don’t need approval. They’re not really loans.”

“I don’t understand.”

“If they don’t pay us back, we just take back the products.”

“What products are those?”

“Whatever they bought.”

“But then the products are sold. They’re all over the country.”

“Yes, that’s how we make money.”

“So to get it all back, you need a small army.”

“No, we invented an app. Take a look at my phone.”

“I don’t understand.”

“Wait, let me show you.”

“I still am confused.”

“They don’t even have this in the US.”

“So how do they manage?”

“They have hundreds of people.”

“They’re that big already?”

“They’ve been going for years.”

“You know, there might be a reason.”

“Sure, they have enough money. But we need to start small.”

“I don’t understand.”

“We launch this next week.”

“So tell me once more – you make money by distributing, or selling, or lending, or from fees from the members?”

“Yes.”

“Are you sure that you’re ready.”

“It will soon be worth millions. We have to be first.”

“First to do what?”

“To do what they’re doing in the US. Those guys are worth billions.”
